My most recent series, is an exploration of motherhood as a personal narrative, and the chaos and struggle of its journey.
Before I became a mother, I found myself drawn to images of protective entities from other cultures. I painted images such as traditional Indonesian masks, and dragons from Chinese New Year Dances. When my son was born, foxes took on a particular symbolism. It was almost as if these beings protected him, even before he was born.
On a 5' x 5' foot panel, I painted his image as a baby, icon-like, surrounded by collages of his favorite cartoon characters, as well as Baroque style putti hovering above him.
